You Be You

My girl marches to her own beautiful, noisy, sweet music.  She loves to wear these fun headbands. Last week, some girls made fun of her and called her names like ‘hippie’ and ‘weird’. I over-talk it with her, inserting my own experience with this insecurity.

My girl says,  ‘Mom. I’m not gonna stop. I like who I am.’

I want to be just like her when I grow up.

I personally think that purply, flowery, fun headbands (and a sprinkling of freckles) have the capacity to change the world.

Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes… the ones who see things differently — they’re not fond of rules… You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can’t do is ignore them because they change things… they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.  ~Steve Jobs

You know I love this! From a mom of a round peg in a world of square holes – thank you! I don’t akways “get” her but when I stop and try to really understand what she is telling me – I usually walk away with my mind blown!

Isn’t that quote the best?! It’s perfection. It’s true…my default is one-way parenting but when I stop and change channels…I see my girl is often much smarter than I am. I love you today.

Oh, this was so me when I was growing up!! I LOVE that head band….LOVE that she is who she is no matter what others say! It is a beautiful thing! It is amazing to me how threatening that is for other girls around, for whatever reason…bringing back those memories of mean girls and holding my head up anyway! Thank you for sharing the beauty of your sweet strong girl!!

Marianne…I can totally see you doing your thing. And I love that about you. It brought back those memories for me, too!! And I didn’t like it-ha. Thank you for your words about my sweet, strong girl. Texas misses you, you know.

    Perfectly said!

Thank you, Natalie. I believe you said you have one of these, too 😉 I always felt like this (marching to my own heart beat) but too often let others mold that in to something else…love that you recognize and encourage your son to do his thing, mama. Love hearing from you!
